WebSep 29, 2024 · Hallux valgus is a deformity at the base of the big toe, or metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint, in which the great toe (hallux) is deviated or points toward the lesser toes; in severe types of the deformity, the great toe goes over or under the second toe. The head of the first metatarsal does not have any musculotendinous attachments. Web(32%) had neuropathy. 5/25 (20%) had a present ulcer with hallux limitus/ rigidus (one patient was healed on the day of surgery), 10/25 (40%) had hallux limitus/rigidus, 7/25 (28%) had hallux valgus, and 2/25 (8%) had both hallux valgus and hallux limitus/ rigidus. One patients had a painful nonunion of the base of the proximal phalanx.
